John Keener “J.K.” & Martha Olive “Ollie” McCall – A Family Photo
She bore him 9 kids in their 23 years of marriage (one died as an infant), but she never lived to see any of her children married or have children of their own. Martha Olive “Ollie” Johnson McCall (1874-1916) was my Great-Great Grandmother, but it was John Keener’s second wife Martha Azle “Miss Azle” that I had the chance to know.
Not much is known about J.K.’s first wife Ollie, how she died, or about her parents. I’ve got little to nothing to go on for my research. But what I am grateful to have is a copy of a picture of her and J.K. taken sometime in late 1898 that gives me a face to put with her name. While gathering some genealogy, my mom photocopied some old pictures of my Great-Grandparents Robert Lee and Etoyl (Montgomery) McCall. She passed them onto me in hopes that I could track down the originals. When going through some things of my Great Grandmother’s years after her death, I found the original and scanned it.
Robert Lee “Bob” is the young child in the photo pictured below; the first child of J.K. and Ollie McCall. The baby is his brother Dewey who I always called “Uncle Dewey”. Both men I had the privilege of knowing as a child.

Dear Brad McCall
I wish to thank you very much for the picture of J K and Martha Olive McCall. This the first and only picture of my maternal grandmother. I didn’t even know her name. My mother was Fay, JK’s youngest daughter. My first cousin, Harold Dean must have been your grandfather. We grew up together. He, my brother John , and I went together and bought a wild horse. Harold Dean was the only one that would ride him. We all spent many weeks evetry year on Uncle Bob’s and Uncle Deweys farms. It was a good way to grow up. Harold Dean had a son that was a very good cabinet maker. Is he your father? Do you live in Baker City OR?
Thanks again for your efforts
