Another reminder that it’s always nice to have physical records of family memories.

Will and Minnie Ingram are buried in Stayton, Oregon in the Lone Oak Cemetery. Other members of my family from Montgomery to McCall are buried here as well.

John Keener McCall was my 2nd Great Grandfather. He is buried in the Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton, Marion County, Oregon. I have visited there and have seen his grave. The Lone Oak Cemetery is on a nice hill on the edge of Stayton in a mostly residential neighborhood overlooking the valley. It is a very wet area with lots of rain, where nearby many of the Christmas tree farms have been torn down to build new housing developments. With all the rain, it’s no wonder there’s moss growing in the attached picture. He is buried with his second wife Martha Azle (Mercer).

The following picture was taken from Findagrave.com, as the picture I took the day I was there isn’t quite as clear as this one.

Death – 3 Jan 1966, Stayton, Marion Co., OR

I was looking through some of my things recently and ran across some pictures that an internet friend (Rick Lawrence) had sent me. In addition to telling me great stories passed on from his mother about my Montgomery relatives, we swapped much information on the Crawley side of my family. Charles C. Crawley is my 3rd Great Grandfather and the mother of Levicia Ellen Crawley who married Dr. Thomas Marion Montgomery in 1892.

Rick took this photo in Parks Cemetery, Nola, Scott County, Arkansas and sent it to me by mail. I’ve cropped in a close-up to see the name better in the second photo. Here’s what he said about finding the grave: “I began searching the Crawley line in 1999. I had no idea who they were, where they were buried, etc. Many of the Yates’ are buried in Scott County at Parks Cemetery, a mile from the Yell County line. In May 2000, I was down there for Decoration Day and was searching for some unmarked graves of my Yates ancestors (which I found!!!). Nancy Crawley Yates is buried there as well. I surmised that since the Yates’ and the Crawleys were basically neighbors, that Chas and Martha must be in that cemetery as well. However, I never searched for them as I was busy with the Yates search. I was standing amongst a group of headstones looking around the cemetery when i looked down at the stone I was next to…and lo and behold it was Chas. C. Crawley! His daughter Ida was one space over from him. I now decorate his and Ida’s grave on Decoration Day…probably the first to do so in over 50 years.” – Rick “Guns” Lawrence

I was looking through some of my things recently and ran across some pictures that an internet friend (Rick Lawrence) had sent me. He shared with me great stories passed on from his mother about Dr. John’s son who was also a doctor, Dr. Lee Montgomery (the brother of my Great-Great Grandfather Dr. Tom). I hope to share some of them here in a later post.

Rick took this photo in Parks Cemetery, Nola, Scott County, Arkansas and sent it to me by mail. It is the grave of my 3rd Great Grandfather Dr. John M. Montgomery. On the grave, in addition to giving his date of birth and death, it quotes a scripture from the bible, 2 Timothy 4:6. Here’s what it says:

DR. J.M.
MONTGOMERY
BORN MAR 11, 1823
DIED FEB 11, 1896,
I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD
FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED
MY COURSE, I HAVE
KEPT THE FAITH,
HENCEFORTH THERE
IS LAID UP FOR ME A
CROWN OF RIGHTEOUS-
NESS.
