I’ve really just begun research on the Zimmerman side of my family. The eldest son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Schnelbach) Zimmerman is my Great-Great Grandfather. While doing some research of their family with my new membership to Ancestry.com, I discovered what looks to be a newspaper article that includes a picture of the couple. I touched up the image and thought I’d share it.

One of the interesting things to note is the spelling of their last name as “Zimermann”, with one first “m” and two second “n”s. This is the first I’ve seen of this spelling. Perhaps it’s the German version?

Daniel Zimmerman
Birth – 8 Sep 1845, Marienthal, Russia
Death – 16 May 1925, Park, Gove Co., Kansas

Father – Michael Zimmerman (1801-)
Mother – Maria (~1805-)

Elisabeth Schnelbach
Marriage – abt 1865
Birth – 15 Aug 1846, Germany
Death – 28 Feb 1911, Park, Gove Co., Kansas

Father – Kasper Schnelbach (~1820-)
Mother – ?
Other spouses	Anna Maria Schnube

It reads:

I have quite a few pictures of my Great Grandparents Bob and Etoyl McCall, but this one has got to be one of my favorites. What I like about it, is this is how I remember them. Their beautiful yard, Etoyl in a nice ironed dress, and Bob in his overalls.

This picture was taken in their backyard in February of 1968, in the background is their second oldest son Robert Wayne McCall (who most people called Pete, we called him Uncle Robert Wayne). He lived with his parents the whole time I knew them, and was married for the first time late in age. And even when I saw him for the last time, nearly 25 years after this picture, he looked exactly like he does in this photo.

Robert Lee McCall
Birth – 22 May 1896, Shark, Yell Co., AR
Death – 7 Mar 1989, Stayton, Marion Co., OR
Marriage – 7 Jan 1920, Gravelly, Yell, Arkansas
Birth – 18 Aug 1896, Harmontown, L, Mississippi
Death – 21 Jun 1996, Sublimity, Marion, Oregon
Burial – 26 Jun 1996, Lone Oak Cem., Stayton, Marion, Oregon

I found the following photo among some photocopies that my mother made of some of my Great Grandmother’s photos in the 1970′s. Even though I don’t know who had this original, I am grateful to have the photocopy. I was looking at this photo, and thought this location looked vaguely familiar. After looking closely at the sign, I read “Wawona Tree” and looked up Wawona Tree on Wikipedia. Sure enough it was familiar, and not in how I thought. I had traveled to Yosemite for my first time in 2006, and had seen the tree now called The Fallen Tunnel Tree (which fell in 1969) and had taken my picture there. It’s great to connect with past relatives in such a simple way.

Pictured below are John Keener “J.K” McCall and his wife Azle (Mercer). Pictured up on the tree above, I’m not sure. Perhaps some of their kids or grandkids. It looks as though this might have been the 1920′s?

My Great Uncle Daniels was kind enough to share this photo with me featuring my Great Great Grandpa Nees. He said it was the General Store of Steve Guthrie Nees (1863-1940), located in Inola, Rogers Co., Oklahoma. This prompted me to go and review the latest US Census records that I hadn’t added to the Timeline of Steven Guthrie Nees to see if he ever had listed an occupation of General Store owner. In both the 1920 and 1930 census he’s listed as being a proprietor of a Shoe Repair shop, so perhaps that’s what it was or became. (I just updated the Census records for S.G. Nees Timeline)

Here’s a close-up, showing Steve Nees on the far left. My Great Uncle Daniels said you could easily recognize a Nees relative because of their prominent ears that stuck out.

I found this picture in my Great Grandmother Etoyl (Montgomery) McCall’s tattered photo album and scanned it. It shows a picture taken in Gravelly, Yell County, Arkansas of the Cotton produced by the Gravelly Sunday School. I looked closely at the picture and was able to identify my Great Grandmother Etoyl (Montgomery) McCall, her husband Robert Lee “Bob” McCall, and his father John Keener “J.K” McCall.

I’ve seen the woman sitting next to my Great Grandmother in several other photos, I may have her name somewhere. I think she’s a cousin. I’m told that Etoyl was very close to her cousins and missed them terribly when she moved away.

Gravelly Sunday School, Gravelly, Yell County, Arkansas (c. 1920?)

Here’s a close-up of the sign they’re holding:

Gravelly Sunday School, Gravelly, Yell County, Arkansas (c. 1920?)

And here’s a close-up of where I was able to identify my relatives: Left: Etoyl (Montgomery) McCall (1896-1996), Center: Robert Lee McCall (1896-1989), Right: John Keener McCall (1872-1965). It also looks like Etoyl’s brother is directly above her.

My Great Grandmother Etoyl (Montgomery) McCall (wife of Robert Lee McCall 1896-1989) kept a tattered photo album by her bedside showing pictures of her childhood growing up in Gravelly, Yell Co., Arkansas in the early 1900′s. I had an opportunity to scan the photos from the family member who inherited the album when Etoyl died, and am working on piecing together who many of the individuals contained in the those photos are. The families include the surnames Lofland, Crawley, Montgomery, McCall, Caviness, Aubrey among others.

The following is one of those pictures. Looking closely I could identify Dr. Tom and Ellen Montgomery and their children. I’m taking my best guess by age at the date of the photo and which child is which.
